Hospital Attendant

Job Summary:
Conducts a variety of housekeeping functions relevant to the operation of a small animal hospital and provides basic animal care.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge Of: General housekeeping and procedures including basic animal husbandry, organization, and disinfecting.

Ability To:

• Leash-walk all types of dogs;
• Clean various messes associated with animals;
• Lift a 40 lb dog into a cage;
• Clean a litter pan and food bowls;
• Launder towels and blankets;
• Operate a vacuum and mop;
• Restock medical supplies;
• Act professionally in the presence of clients;
• Keep simple records;
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
• Maintain a neat professional appearance;
• Maintain a harmonious and cooperative relationship with coworkers

Education: Equivalent to completion of 10th grade

Experience: Some previous exposure to pets and an affinity to animals.

Specific Duties:

• Walk dogs, clean litter pans, and clean runs and cages.
• Provide food, water, litter, and clean towels to patients as needed.
• Bathe and brush animals.
• Launder towels and blankets.
• Give status of patients to the Technician on duty.
• Maintain the appearance of the hospital.
• Organize and stock hospital supplies.
• Assist other staff as directed.
• Other related duties as assigned.
