Sara Lewis, DVM, MBA
Dr. Sara Lewis was born and raised in rural Frederick County, Maryland. She attended Wilson College in Pennsylvania, where she double majored in Veterinary Medical Technology and Biology and minored in Chemistry. She earned her Degree of Veterinary Medicine from St. Matthews University, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. While practicing veterinary medicine Dr. Lewis was also awarded her Masters of Business Administration from Davenport University in 2015. Dr. Lewis is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, The Virginia Medical Association, and is USDA accredited. Her special interests include nutrition, client education, and the human-animal bond.
Dr. Lewis grew up on a farm surrounded by Black Angus cows, sheep, goats, pigs, Jack Russell Terriers, and Coon Hounds. She remembers wanting to be a veterinarian as early as kindergarten. When she was in fourth grade she wrote an essay explaining why she wanted to be a veterinarian and/or a teacher when she grew up. Today, she has found a way to combine both loves when she spends time educating her clients to improve their pet’s health.
When asked what she loves most about being a veterinarian, Dr. Lewis responded “I am humbled and grateful to able to strengthen the relationship with people and their pets. I love it when people tell me that I have been able to explain something to them in a way that helps them to make tough decisions.” Dr. Lewis prefers preventive medicine cases because she would rather catch medical issues early. She also enjoys nutrition, for she often finds subtle changes in diet to be the easiest and most affordable way to improve a pet’s health and to prolong her patient’s lives. Dr. Lewis believes, “the pet owner is the most integral part of the veterinary medical team – together, we can make the best decision for their pet.”
In her free time, Dr. Lewis loves to watch movies and hockey games – Go Caps! Most of all she enjoys time with her husband and family, and going for long walks in the woods with Spunky, her Jack Russell Terrier.
